Graduation Photos - Friends Session | Northern Virginia Photographer
There's something uniquely special about that last season of elementary school. It is a time that childhood feels big and small at the same time, and best friends are everything. This 5th grade graduation photo session was a celebration of friendship, confidence, and the excitement of stepping into middle school.
We met around 1pm at their elementary school under full sun and a strong cool spring breeze, not the ideal conditions most photographers hope for, but honestly, it worked. The wind gave movement to their hair and skirts, the sun made everything felt bright and joyful, and the trees bloomed in the background like the perfect farewell backdrop.
What made this session shine wasn’t the setting it was them. These girls showed up with lovely personalities, authentic laughter, and the kind of bond that only comes from years of recess, school activities, and shared lunch tables. We didn’t overly pose or plan. Instead, we leaned into the fun running, dancing, hugging, and twirling. It was all about capturing their connection exactly as it is right now: kind, honest, and full of light.
Why Graduation Sessions Aren’t Just for Seniors
We often think about portraits for high school seniors, but moments like this deserve to be documented, too. Fifth grade is a big milestone, a final chapter before lockers and class changes and growing up in new ways. In our populated area a lot of the elementary schools feed into different middle schools. This is a great way to honor the sweetness of now.
