Cherry Blossoms & Golden Light – A Nature-Inspired Engagement Photo Shoot at Green Spring Gardens

When Caitlyn reached out about photographing her wedding, I was already excited — and then she mentioned her mom, and I realized I already knew her family. It's one of my favorite things about working in this community. After a quick call it was clear we were a great fit. She wanted photos that felt real, relaxed, and true to color. No stiff posing, no performance. Just them. Since Jonathan works on a farm near Richmond and Caitlyn was visiting her mom, we decided to meet in the middle at Green Spring Gardens in Alexandria, a spot that held a lot of personal meaning for Caitlyn, who grew up coming here as a kid. It was a perfect choice.

We scheduled the session during golden hour and honestly the light that evening was everything. White cherry blossoms, warm backlit glow, and two people who were completely comfortable with each other from the very first minute. My sessions follow a natural loop, we walk, we wander, we pause where the light is good — and this one unfolded exactly the way I love. No rushing, no forced smiles, just movement and connection.

We started under the cherry blossoms at the top of the gardens, wandered down along the trails, found a tucked-away blue house that made the most perfect backdrop, and ended the evening near the pond dancing under the trees. Virginia bluebells showed up unexpectedly. A fairytale root-covered tree appeared out of nowhere. It was one of those sessions where everything just comes together.
